When did you know you wanted to be a hair stylist and how long have you been in the industry? I’ve been a stylist for 6 years now.  I’ve always loved doing hair. I taught myself how to braid with by using my dolls when I was young and knew it was for me. I’ve always been passionate and have loved every minute since I started my career.

What is your favourite color trend or hairstyle? Lately I have been loving undercutting and bobs. The long bob is very in style right now. In relation to hair color, I love creating the perfect blonde and the ombre trend has been huge! I love brightening hair up for the summer to give sun kissed looks.

Describe your personal style and tell us what inspires your creativity? I have a fun, edgy style – lots of texture and bright colors!  I love runway shows and seeing what is around me with color trends. Clothing trends inspire me to balance hair color with seasonal colors. I also use Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration regularly. I love to sit down and talk with my clients for inspiration to ensure I’m clear on exactly what they’re looking for.

What is your favourite Redken product? Right now, I really love the Extreme Lengths Primer! I like it because it is a lightweight leave-in treatment that is great for preserving color! Perfect for blondes!

What sets you apart from other stylists? I am driven and eager to learn new techniques. I’m always looking to break the mold and set new trends.

When did you take the Redken Certified Colorist Exam and what was the exam preparation like, and lastly, what did the exam involve? I took the exam in June 2014 and became certified the following December. It involved a prep day class, where information and materials were given to study. The exam consisted of practical work (foiling and coloring), as well as working with the direction of hair and parting. The written exam was intensive with essay questions on how to correct color and multiple choice scenarios.

What are the greatest benefits you received from becoming certified? Becoming Redken Certified has taught me to control my speed during services and especially when coloring. I also learned valuable tips on how to be more precise with direction and the layout of coloring.

Why should other stylists strive to become Redken Certified? The education and skills learned from taking this exam are so valuable. The exam allows you to know how to set yourself apart and how to apply your color knowledge to current trends. It really pushes you to be the best Redken colorist you can be!
