Meet Redken Color Certified Hair Stylist Alicia White
When did you know you wanted to be a hair stylist and how long have you been in the industry? I’ve been in the beauty industry for roughly 11 years now. I knew I belonged in this industry when I worked reception as a teenager. I loved the environment and I knew I had made the right decision as soon as I started hair school. I loved it right away.
What is your favourite color trend or hairstyle? I really like Balayage and Sombre techniques right now. These trends provide such a soft look that is so different from highlights.
Describe your personal style and tell us what inspires your creativity? My personal style is classic with an edge. My team here at Dutch Village Road Head Shoppe inspires me every day. We are such a creative group! I also look to social media (Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube) for inspiration and follow celebrities for hair and beauty trends.
What is your favourite Redken product? Blonde Idol BBB spray – This product provides multiple benefits – it creates shine, strengthens hair and smells amazing. Just to name a few of its benefits!
What sets you apart from other stylists? I’m very passionate about what I do. I am fully invested in continuing to learn and I attend as many classes as possible each year. Keeping up to date with classes really helps to stay fresh on new trends and helps me continue to grow and evolve as a stylist.
When did you take the Redken Certified Colorist Exam and what was the exam preparation like, and lastly, what did the exam involve? I took the exam in May 2014. Exam preparation included a lot of studying. I studied with my coworkers and did a lot of technical work with timing and formulas. Practicing reading color charts, color books and litho charts was also a big help.
What are the greatest benefits you received from becoming certified? I feel confident in my skills. I find because I am Redken certified and a senior stylist I am able to give advice to my team when needed and offer some helpful tips.
Why should other stylists strive to become Redken Certified? Taking the Redken Certified Colorists exam is a great refresher that brings you back to the basics. This exam highlights things you think you know and really makes you refocus and refresh your skills. Over time, you develop habits and this helps to bring Redken’s suggested color practices back to the forefront and reminds you why they’re so important. It also really helps with confidence in your formulations!
