Redken Artists Jill Letiz and Chris Baran provide advice about creating and maintaining healthy, shiny, frizz-free curls.
Read on for their Dos and Don'ts!
DO dry with a diffuser.
Blasting curls with a blow dryer causes frizz and fly-aways. Always air-dry or use a diffuser (a special attachment that helps to keep curls under control). See Avanti Universal Diffuser on for only $11.99 in March!
DON'T towel-dry after you shampoo.
Rubbing curls back and forth with a towel roughs up hair's surface. Blot gently instead.
DO layer curl products.
Layering haircare and styling products helps curls stay frizz-free. Ask your stylist which products are right for you!
DON'T brush curls.
Brushing disturbs your natural curl pattern. Use a wide-tooth detangling comb instead.
DO shape your curls.
Work your product through damp hair, then wrap sections around your fingers to shape curls.
DO sleep on silk.
It's true - sleeping on a silk or satin pilowcase helps cut down on frizz. The reason? Silk causes less friction then cotton.
DON'T skip treatments.
Curly hair tends to be dry, so it's crucial to use an at-home deep conditioning treatment like Fresh Curls Curl Recovery once a week. (Receive Fresh Curls Curl Recovery half off when you buy a NEW Redken Curl Styler)
DO see your stylist every six weeks.
Regular trims help prevent split ends, which makes you less likely to develop frizz and fly-aways.
DON'T forget about color.
Ask your stylist for highlights that emphasize the shape of your curls, or an all over Shades EQ color gloss to boost shine.
