Redken and it's team of stylists from coast to coast are channelling their energy and talents and their social consciousness to fight child poverty in Canada and abroad. Teaming up with the acclaimed ONEXONE organization, Redken and The Head Shoppe are committed to raising significant funds to be distributed to charities in Canada that help fight poverty. This year the funds raised by the cut-a-thon will be directed towards food banks and child breakfast programs in the communities of participating salons.
On Sunday July 12th, 2009, The Head Shoppe hosted four Kids' Cut-a-Thons at The Halifax Shopping Centre, Mic Mac Mall, New Minas & Sydney locations. The events took place between 12-4PM and offered children's haircuts for a suggested donation of $5 or $3 with the donation of one non-perishable food item.
Each year, Redken raises $100,000 for ONEXONE - largely from the community of salons who stage Cut-a-hons, in-salon events, raffles and concerts.
Participating locations of The Head Shoppe will also be collecting non-perishable food items for Feed Nova Scotia throughout the month of July.
Poverty Facts:
- 41% of food bank users are children. That's 325, 390 kids that use food banks regularly every year in Canada.
- Over one million children - almost 1 in every 6 children - live in poverty in Canada.
- Canada's child poverty rate of 17% is three times as high as the rates of Sweden, Norway or Finland.
